Can you build a cabin or mountain home in Idaho City?
Yes. Expect the design to be driven by snow load, slope, access, and wildfire considerations, and expect the schedule to be built around getting the structure dried in ahead of winter. Those are the terms of building at elevation, and they are entirely workable when planned for.
Is it more expensive to build up here than in the valley?
Generally yes, and the reasons are concrete rather than vague: heavier structure for snow load, engineered foundations on slope, longer material haul, seasonal access, and well and septic instead of city services. We break those out in the estimate so you can see where the difference sits.
Do you renovate older cabins?
Regularly. Structural and foundation review comes first, then envelope and insulation appropriate to the elevation, then roofing sized to the actual snow load, then the finishes. Cabins extended informally over the years often need the load path sorted before anything else is worth doing.
