Parma sits where the Boise River meets the Snake, in some of the most productive farmland in the state. It is a small town with a real core and a great deal of working acreage around it.
Our work here runs from kitchen and bath remodels and farmhouse renovations in town to custom homes, shops, and equipment buildings on the surrounding land.

What we find in Parma homes
The Parma townsite holds early-twentieth-century and post-war homes on generous lots, many with original character worth preserving and systems that are long past due. Outside town, farmhouses and manufactured homes on acreage dominate. Renovation scopes here reliably include electrical service upgrades, plumbing replacement, insulation and air sealing, and structural attention to additions and porches framed without engineering.
Permitting and planning in Parma
The City of Parma permits within the townsite; Canyon County Development Services handles rural parcels and applies its own standards for dwellings and accessory structures. Well and septic with district health approval are standard outside town. This area sits at the confluence of two river systems, so floodplain mapping is worth checking on parcels near either river before design. Irrigation easements are widespread and are the usual reason a shop or addition has to shift on the site plan.

Learn moreBuilding in Parma: common questions
Does the river affect building near Parma?
It can. Parcels near the Boise or Snake River may fall within mapped floodplain, which brings elevation requirements and floodplain permitting to new structures and substantial improvements. Confirming the mapping early keeps it from changing the foundation approach late.
Do you renovate older homes in the Parma townsite?
Yes, and they are good candidates. The lots are generous, the framing is generally sound, and the money goes where it should — systems, insulation, windows, and the kitchen and bath rather than fighting the structure.
Can you build shops and pole buildings here?
Regularly. Equipment storage, hay barns, RV shops, and detached garages are among the most common projects in this part of the county.
What our clients say about GW Construction
We specialise in helping clients get the biggest return on their investment — and we’d welcome the chance to give you a custom evaluation of your home.
“The finished work was excellent, delivered on time, and inside our budget. What more is there to ask?”
Our experience with GW Construction was outstanding from beginning to end. They were recommended to us by a real estate agent we trusted, who was helping us plan a remodel of a home we had just purchased. Past contractors had been hit or miss for us, so committing to a renovation north of $70,000 made us genuinely nervous. That changed at the first meeting. Derek listened carefully to what we wanted the remodel to accomplish and then carried the plan out faithfully. Just as valuable, he offered real insight where he saw a way to improve on our thinking, and told us plainly when an idea of ours was not economically sensible or carried a downside we had not considered. He was straightforward, transparent, and respectful throughout. Communication was excellent — calls, emails, and texts were returned promptly. He even introduced us to each of the subcontractors so we could build a relationship with them directly. Most importantly, the finished work was excellent, delivered on time, and inside our budget. What more is there to ask? Highly recommended.
Jack and Sue Serrino“He has completed more than 25 projects for my clients over the years, and I intend to keep sending them his way.”
Derek is far and away the best contractor I have worked with, and his ability to listen to my clients and respond to what they actually need has exceeded anything I expected. Being classically trained and professionally educated shows in the work. His grasp of both the practical and the possible means he handles small and large-scale jobs equally well, and there is genuinely nothing I would hesitate to refer to him. He has completed more than 25 projects for my clients over the years, and I intend to keep sending them his way.
